I went to bed last night after a hot citrus tea with a drizzle of local honey. Delicious, but not my norm. I’m more of an AM coffee gal.
Why the tea?
To feel cozy fall vibes? No, though it helped.
To try a sleep better? In some ways, but not in the ‘tea is relaxing’ sense.
No, I had tea because I could feel sickness creeping in; sitting in the back of my throat (ew). It was Sunday evening and I have a FULL week of work ahead of me.
Like parents, caregivers, and other business owners. My business is my baby, and we don’t get traditional sick days.
I scoured my medicine cabinet for the proper preventative to hopefully sleep it off.
No luck. Monday morning, a 9am meeting, and a foggy head with the same froggy throat.
What if it was worse?
While it’s never fun to be acutely sick, I am still a relatively healthy woman. I have full confidence after a week of hating being sick, I’ll be at full power and moving through the world.
But a sickness, even a small one, can be enough to remind us – what if it was worse? All the things I’m worried about this week, what if I wasn’t better in a few days? What if I never was able to get back to them?
Who picks up the pieces you were juggling?
As adults, we have a myriad of responsibilities with cascading impacts.
Missing a work deadline might mean a delay, or a lost contract, or the end of our employment.
Missing mortgage payments risks your home. Our entire pyramid of wellbeing suddenly seems built on sand.
Scary.
School has started, kids will bring back illness to homes and coworkers everywhere. So…
If you’re healthy today – be glad.
If you’re experiencing a minor illness – I wish you well and hope it can remind you of all the things you carry.
If you’re experiencing chronic illness and find this post laughable – I get that, and hope you’ll share your tips to balancing responsibilities with chaotic wellness.
If you’re a business owner, that means succession planning
If you’re a parent, that means end-of-life planning
If you’re an adult child, that means end-of-life planning for you AND your parents
Not sure where to start end-of-life planning?
There are SO many checklists online, it’s overwhelming – informative but overwhelming.

An update:
It took a full week to get better! I missed so many events I had planned on attending which was disappointing but I was so relieved when I woke up well again.
